This Northern Cardinal has a banded leg. The image was taken 9April2016 at Red River NWR Headquarters Unit in northwest Louisiana. Thank you, Maxine. Each June Red River National Wildlife Refuge in northwest Louisiana hosts a "bird camp" for local kids. The week long day camp focuses on all sorts of activities to teach kids about birds. Usually on one day a certified banding person (in this case a local ornithology professor) does a demonstration on how birds are caught in a mist net and then how they are banded. This particular cardinal received his bracelet a couple of years ago and has been seen and photographed around the Refuge Visitor Center on numerous occasions.

Beautiful capture, Ronnie!!! And so cool that it's banded! I don't know if I would have noticed it if you hadn't mentioned it. :)
